🎨 A Little Mystery Solved & A Piece of Local History Revealed!
Sometimes the best stories are hanging right on your wall.
When my parents bought their house nearly 10 years ago, a small painting was left behind on the wall. I loved it from the moment I moved in—it instantly felt special and always had a forever home with me. But for years, I wondered about the story behind it and who painted it.
After doing a bit of gentle sleuthing online, I tracked down the artist, Lynne, and sent her a message with just a close-up snippet of the signature and brushwork.
Here is how our conversation went:
JM: “Hi Lynne, you don’t know me but I am very curious, did you paint some truly lovely pieces of art years back? I’m trying to track down an artist of a small piece that I was left years back in a house my parents purchased…”
Lynne: “I can’t see much of the painting, but the colours are thrilling, so very likely could have been me. The signature is familiar, but would be nice to know more. It’s been many years since I painted on boards.”
JM: “I moved in nearly 10 years ago and it was left on the wall, it forever has a home here and feels special as I would love to find out the story that belongs with it… I didn’t want to send the whole photo in case I messaged the wrong person…”
Lynne: “Oh, yes, that is one of my paintings, one of my favourites too. And I know exactly where that was, although I haven’t been out to Eel Creek Rd, Langshaw area lately, to know if it’s still there. It is the side track to the area where there were communal bins on a little rise. I’m stoked you like it… This was painted over 30 years ago, around 1988, the Australian Bicentenary, when I first started painting on boards. You have searched well.”
It’s amazing to know that this piece was painted circa 1988 in its original frame, capturing a quiet side track off Eel Creek Road in Langshaw. Knowing the history and connecting with Lynne makes having it on my wall even more meaningful! 🖼️✨

And if anyone remembers on Eel Creek Road, Langshaw where the community bins were exactly, I would like to know. This is a painting of the little track leading up to the bins. Funny how we lose track of little things like where it was.
